Think Video - Rent Out Videos

The Rent Out Videos window is mainly used for just that, renting out videos, but is also used for purchasing items. The example below shows the customer, Julia Bennett, borrowing the video "Meet the Parents" and purchasing a can of Pepsi. The date is the 2nd of July 2001. Here is the procedure for that example :

1. Scan the customers member ID card, or type it in manually
2. Scan the barcode on the video, then scan the can of Pepsi (note - each time you scan an item it appears in the list below, and updates the total price)
3. Type the amount tendered, in this case Julia gave $20, then press tab
4. Give the customer the change, as calculated in the Change field
5. Click the Finish button to save the details in the system

(Read on for why the figures do not add up)

The other 6 windows are for more complex transactions, such as :

• Accounts/credit - store information on how much store credit a customer has, or how much they owe in late fees etc.
• Rebates - giving discounts, matching competitors deals, coupons, or refunding a customer for any item(s)
• Rented items - shows you if your customer has any videos still out, when they are due back, and if there are any late fees owing on them

Special features include :

• Member details - allows you to check basic information about the current customer so that you can verify their personal details are current, without actually having to go to another window or other section of the program. This makes the borrowing process faster and easier
• Unsettled items - shows any or all reasons if a customer owes money to the store, itemising each charge in one easy list
