This section is used for two different purposes :

by the administrator or head of department to allocate students into classes
by teachers to enter students results

The window below (which is not the complete window due to the size limitations of this web page) shows a basic example of what kind of comparisons can be made from a grade of students.

It not only can show you what overall mark a particular student got for each subject, but also gives you their mean statistical results, position in that class, and the teachers comments. The biggest advantage here is that in the example where a student did not get a very good result, but he/she tried their very best, the comment field will show this, whereas normal statistics would just show that this student did not try hard at all.
